Inès Levade, Ph.D.
Inès Levade is a specialized scientific advisor at the Quebec Public Health Laboratory (LSPQ) and coordinator of the Expert Committee on SARS CoV-2 Genomic Surveillance in Quebec.
After training in next generation sequencing, genomics and ancient DNA at the Centre for Geogenetics in Copenhagen, under the supervision of Ludovic Orlando, Inès moved into the field of microbial genomics applied to human pathogens. She then earned a PhD in microbial evolution at the University of Montreal under the supervision of Jesse Shapiro and went to McGill University for a post-doctoral fellowship under the supervision of Dao Nguyen. She developed an expertise in the study of the intra-host evolution of pathogens such as Vibrio cholerae, Mycobacterium tuberculosis or Pseudomonas aeruginosa. She is particularly interested in the evolution of pathogens within infected patients and their interactions with members of the human microbiome. She is currently using this expertise to study the evolution and genomic surveillance of SARS-CoV-2.
